Elder Runes in Stone

Our Elder Runes come in three different stone colors and are the perfect size for Futhark Rune readings anywhere at any time. Each set comes complete in a velvet bag with the standard 24 sigils plus the blank Wyrd. Each rune stone measures approximately 15 mm by 23 mm, slightly larger than our Traveler’s Runes. The stones are hand-carved, so there is some variation in size and shape from rune to rune. The Elder Runes are available in three stones:

Elder Runes

For more than 1,500 years, the 24 symbols of the Elder Futhark alphabet sat at the heart of Norse lore. Equal parts alphabet, learning tool, record keeper and prophesy, runes helped keep the Scandinavian tales of gods and giants alive for centuries.

In Norse mythology, the maiden Norns carved the first runes based on wisdom they received from the Well of Urd. The god king Odin sacrificed himself on the world tree Yggdrasil for nine days and nights so that his eyes would open to the true meaning of the strange symbols.
